Install the Free Kernel in Debian

Table of contents

Well today I bring you a manual to install the Kernel ===
As we already know, or should know, Linus Torvals has included binary blobs in the Linux source code that make the kernel not 100% free.
Well today I bring you a manual to install the Kernel recommended by the FSF.
We open a terminal and log in as root
Bash
rokitoh@redorbita:~$ su
Contraseña:

First we are going to check the proprietary software that we have installed, to do this we install:

Bash
rokitoh@redorbita:~# apt-get install vrms

and we execute:

Bash
rokitoh@redorbita:~# vrms

In the event that we had proprietary software, it would show us a list of all non-free packages. To have our Debian 100% free, open uninstall them and remove all the non-free ones from the sources.list.

You have to be honest, and I am not 100% free, I have proprietary VGA drivers.

non-free packages, 0.3% of 1283 installed packages.

Well, moving on to the grade, we are going to install the free kernel. For this we add this repository to our
sources.list

Bash
rokitoh@redorbita:~# gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

We add the ropository

text
#kernel-libre
deb http://www.aligunduz.org/gNewSense/freedomshoppe/ linux-libre/

we update the packages

Bash
rokitoh@redorbita:~# apt-get update

AND WE INSTALL THE KERNEL!!!

Bash
rokitoh@redorbita:~# apt-get install linux-libre-2.6.27

and llasta.  We already have a free kernel. It's very simple!
